What is the difference between Geotechnical and Geomechanical Engineering?

Can someone explain the difference between these two, or are they interchangeable?

They're largely interchangeable, but 'geomechanical engineering' is more commonly used in mining and rock engineering fields. On the other hand, 'geotechnical engineering' is typically used to refer to soils and most near-surface civil engineering work.
