How can you find reliable subcontractors and laborers?

What are your methods for finding reliable subcontractors and skilled laborers? And if you’re a subcontractor or laborer, what’s the best way for a general contractor or other subcontractors to find you?

Mainly by networking and references, As a solo custom home builder, I often visit other ongoing projects in the area and chat with tradespeople and subcontractors. I keep a long spreadsheet of their names for future reference, in case someone I've worked with before isn’t available for one of my jobs.
