What is the difference between an accountant and a bookkeeper?

I’m looking to understand the difference between a bookkeeper and an accountant. Could you explain the distinction?

Bookkeepers primarily manage the books by entering data, printing checks, and making deposits. Accountants, on the other hand, handle these tasks as well but also interpret the data, ensure deadlines are met, calculate ratios, and meet with management. They are also responsible for issuing financial statements.
