What are the advantages and disadvantages of PEX pipes compared to copper pipes? In certain situations, would it make sense to use both materials together?
I'm building my own house, and bids from plumbers for PEX is coming in much cheaper, but I've heard that copper is better in the long run.
PEX piping is more affordable and flexible than copper, making it easier to install with fewer joints and a reduced risk of leaks. It is also resistant to corrosion and scale buildup, but it’s not suitable for outdoor use due to its sensitivity to UV rays and may not perform well in high-heat environments. On the other hand, copper is durable, UV-resistant, and can last longer, but it is more expensive and may corrode in certain water conditions. Ultimately, the choice depends on your project’s specific needs and environment.
