A pool builder designs the pool, manages excavation, builds the shell, installs plumbing, filtration and equipment, applies interior finishes and builds decks and coping, often coordinating electrical and fencing.
Concrete pools offer the most design flexibility, fiberglass pools install faster with a smooth shell, and vinyl liner pools often cost less upfront. Maintenance, lifespan and site conditions differ for each.
Visit completed pools, talk to past customers and compare detailed contracts on equipment, finishes, decking and payment schedules. Ask who handles permits, fencing or barrier requirements and inspections.
Cost depends on size, pool type, shape, site access and soil, decking, equipment, features such as spas and lighting, fencing requirements and permits.
Check zoning, setbacks, HOA rules and barrier requirements early, and plan where equipment and spoils will go. Expect heavy equipment access through the yard and protect landscaping you want to keep.
