A wallpaper installer prepares and primes walls, measures and plans pattern placement, cuts and hangs wallcoverings, and trims around openings. Many also remove old wallpaper and repair damaged walls.
It is usually better to remove old wallpaper and smooth textured walls so the new paper lies flat and adheres well. An installer can test the existing surface and recommend preparation.
Ask to see examples of patterned or specialty wallcoverings they have hung, and confirm how they handle pattern matching and seams. Ask whether wall preparation and removal are included in the estimate.
Cost depends on wall area, the type of wallcovering, pattern repeat, ceiling height, wall condition and repairs, and how many layers of old paper must be removed.
Order enough wallpaper from the same batch, with extra for pattern matching. Clear furniture away from walls, remove outlet covers and wall decor, and keep the room at a steady temperature during installation.
