A solar installer evaluates your roof, shading and electricity use, designs a system, installs panels, inverters and mounting equipment, and works with your utility to connect the system. Many also install batteries and service systems after installation.
Fit depends on roof orientation and condition, shading from trees or nearby buildings, available space, local utility policies and your electricity use. A reputable installer will look at these factors and explain expected production rather than promising specific savings.
Compare proposals on equipment, system size, estimated production, warranties on panels, inverters and workmanship, and who handles permits and utility paperwork. Ask how production estimates were calculated and be cautious of high-pressure sales or promises of specific savings.
Cost depends on system size, equipment brands, roof type and complexity, whether you add batteries, electrical upgrades, and local permitting and interconnection requirements. Incentives and financing terms vary widely, so review the full cost and any loan or lease terms carefully.
Ask the installer whether your roof should be repaired or replaced first, since panels are usually removed for reroofing. Share recent utility bills, clear access to the attic, roof and electrical panel, and check homeowner association rules if they apply.
