A siding contractor removes damaged or old cladding, repairs sheathing and weather barriers as needed, and installs new siding, trim, soffits and flashing. They also repair sections of existing siding after damage.
Replacement is worth discussing when siding is cracked, warped, rotting, loose or letting moisture into the walls, or when patched sections no longer match. Options include vinyl, fiber cement, wood, engineered wood and metal, each with different upkeep, so ask contractors to compare materials for your climate and any HOA rules.
Look for experience with the material you want, and compare estimates on removal, sheathing repairs, weather barrier, trim and cleanup. Ask about manufacturer installation requirements, warranties, insurance and whether a permit is required where you live.
Cost depends on the size and shape of the home, the siding material and style, removing old siding, repairs to sheathing, trim details around windows and doors, the number of stories and access.
Clear items and furniture away from exterior walls, trim plants near the house, and remove wall decor inside that could shake loose. Ask how the crew will protect landscaping and windows and where materials will be stored.
