A concrete contractor prepares the site and base, builds forms, adds reinforcement, pours and finishes concrete, and cuts control joints. Many also repair, resurface or level existing concrete.
Concrete can crack as it shrinks while curing, when the base settles, from freeze-thaw cycles, tree roots or heavy loads. Good base preparation, reinforcement and control joints help, though some small cracks are common.
Review completed work similar to yours and compare written bids on base preparation, thickness, reinforcement, finish, joints and removal of old concrete. Ask about curing and when you can walk or drive on the new surface.
Cost depends on the area and thickness, site preparation and removal, reinforcement, decorative finishes or color, access for trucks, and local permit requirements for driveways or slabs.
Mark sprinkler lines and utilities, and confirm the layout and finished height. Move vehicles and items from the area, plan for truck access, and keep people and pets off fresh concrete as directed.
