A patio cover contractor designs and builds structures that shade patios and decks, including attached or freestanding covers, pergolas and awnings, along with footings, posts, beams and roofing.
A cover makes sense when a patio or deck is too sunny or rainy to use comfortably. A solid patio cover blocks sun and rain, while a pergola's open or slatted top gives partial shade, and adjustable louvered systems can do both. If you want walls and windows, that is a sunroom project instead.
Ask about materials, attachment to the house, drainage and roof tie-in details, and warranty terms. Ask whether a permit is required where you live and who will obtain it.
Cost depends on size, material, solid versus open roof, attached or freestanding design, footings, electrical work for lights or fans and permit requirements.
Clear patio furniture and decor, check HOA rules and decide on lighting or fan locations in advance. Make sure crews can reach the area for materials and equipment.
